Project in Focus: Hackney Road
95 Hackney Road is located in the bustling and stylish area of Shoreditch, East London. Stretching over five upper floors plus a basement, this development includes both residential and commercial units. Each area of this development has been meticulously planned and designed with precision, providing high specification throughout. Having previously worked on a successful project with Stephen Marshall Architects using the CGL Traypanel System, they approached us again to give this building a similar look with our perforated cladding and the stunning façade certainly looks right at home at this exclusive address.

CGL Facades were responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of the PPC Perforated Aluminium cladding around the balcony areas at the front of the building. Combining art with architecture, the eye-catching facade sets the contemporary tone for the interior. The perforated aluminium panels have been powder coated ensuring its resilience and sleek appearance. By powder coating the cladding it ensures that it is extremely durable and long lasting with a superior finish. Because the perforated cladding is in effect an open mesh, it doesn’t just add to the aesthetic of the building it also allows natural light and air to filter through which is key to the performance of the building.

This project incorporated the projecting 95 sign which has been back lit to give a halo effect. The discreet illumination adds a dramatic but welcoming feel to the building. The versatility of CGL’s Traypanel system allows for lighting strips to be added in such a way that they are effectively invisible during the day, while highlighting the signage in light after dark. The welcoming lightness of the warm white illumination provides a great contrast and looks especially flattering against the dark cladding.

We are delighted to have worked again alongside Stephen Marshall Architects to turn their vision for this unique project into reality. Hackney Road perfectly demonstrates how CGL Facades can work together with a client to create an effective cladding system that impacts both the aesthetics and performance of a building.
