Project in Focus: Tanners Hill
Tanners Hill is a residential development located in the prime South East London location of Deptford within close proximity to New Cross and Deptford train stations. The former industrial site that had previously been unused for almost 15 years was acquired and transformed into 58 modern one, two and three bedroom apartments. CGL Facades were appointed to manufacture and install the feature façade panels around the balconies of the building.

Early on in the planning stages it became clear that achieving the desired aesthetic was going to cost too much for the client so we worked closely with main contractor Skillcrown and DB Architects to design a completely bespoke, cost effective solution.

CGL’s vertical Traypanel system was used in a striking colour combination of beige grey, khaki grey and brown grey which perfectly complements the rich contrasting tones of the existing brickwork. As well as ensuring a sleek and uniform finish, the PPC Aluminium material used is reflective, and not only bounces light from one building to the other but it can look different shades in different lights. Aluminium’s physical strength is one of its greatest benefits as a cladding material. In this case it has been powder coated, not only adding colour but additional protection against ambient conditions. Powder coated aluminium can last for over 25 years even in the harshest of environments, making it a practical solution for the client.

CGL also supplied the soffits for the underside of the balconies serving both an aesthetic and functional purpose. The vented soffits allow air to flow through, providing regular air circulation and avoiding moisture build up. The Traypanel system is also fully ventilated ensuring air movement in the cavity between the panel and the inner wall.

Tanners Hill is a perfect example of how CGL Facades can work together with a client to value engineer a cost effective cladding solution all the while achieving the desired aesthetic and performance.
